Solfège Studio

How Solfège Studio works

Work one line of the song at a time. For each line, type three things:

  1. Lyrics, with hyphens so every note gets one syllable: mi-ra-cle.
  2. Melody in solfège, one note per syllable: do re mi fa sol la ti. Numbers 1 to 7 work too.
  3. Chords, one under each note. Use numbers (1 4 5), letters (C F G), or a dash - to keep the same chord.

Going up or down? The app takes each melody note as the closest one to the note before. If the melody jumps further, add ' to go up (sol') or , to go down (sol,).

How the parts are worked out

Changing a note

The suggestion is a starting point. Tap any soprano, alto or tenor note to change it. You can keep the note from before, pick another chord note, or choose any note on the scale. Changed notes get a small dot, and the notes after them follow from your choice.

The app points out spots worth a second look:

Trust your ear. If it sounds right to you, keep it.

Hearing one voice

At the bottom of the screen, choose All, Soprano, Alto or Tenor, then press Play. The other rows fade so you can follow the part you hear. To hear one part of a single line, tap the play button next to its name in that line.

Trying two versions

Use Copy line to make a second version of a line, for example the same melody over a different chord. Play both and keep the one you like.

Keeping your work

Inside a song, Save as PDF makes a printable copy laid out like the app: lyrics, chords, and the soprano, alto and tenor rows, with the melody shaded and passing notes marked. Spots worth a second look are listed under each line.

Sharing a song

Inside a song, Copy song code copies the whole song as text. Send it to someone, and they can paste it with Paste a song on the song list.

Songs are saved in this browser on this device. Copy the song code if you want a backup.
